"The Card" is a fantastically written story about thy card ... a PSA 8 NM-MT T206 Honus Wagner ... and the unusual history & conflicting stories surrounding the mystery of what is now know as "The Gretzky Card"! The path this specific card has taken from its discovery & introduction to the public back in '85 by Bill Mastro (now a convicted felon), after purchasing from a small time card dealer, is simply amazing! This book takes you on a compelling journey on how this card was originally purchased for $25,000 by Mastro, with the financial assistance of Robert Lifson (President of Robert Edward Auctions, LLC), to eventually being sold/auctioned off another 6 times culminating in a $2.8 million purchase (presently owned by Ken Kendrick/owner of Arizona Diamondbacks). "The Card" keeps you captivated and does a nice job filling in the back stories and developing the characters who have been influential in either purchasing and/or buying The Card! Its a fun read and highly recommended!

This covers the story of what is called the T206 Gretzkey Honus Wagner card which if you are in to collecting sports card you probably aware of. This story also discuss the collectible card industry in general. Anywhere their is a chance to make a large sum of money there will always be Con Artist, Crooks and Shysters and it appears it is the cases even in todays trading markets which is a dam shame. Overall this is a pretty good read even if you are not in to collecting sports cards.

ABOUT THE BOOK: As someone who once collected baseball cards as a kid, it was interesting to learn a little something more about the hobby and it's most sought-after baseball card. I never knew how cut-throat baseball card collecting really was. It was also nice to learn a little something about Honus Wagner, a long-forgotten Hall of Famer. For anyone who has collected baseball cards, this book is worth reading for the the history and background on the hobby and some of its key players even if the book might be a bit dated already (technology evolving and all). The book is well researched and interviews are solid. I'd expect as much from a reporter and O'Keeffe delivers.ABOUT THE PRODUCT: For a 99-cent Kindle edition, remember you get what you pay for. There are many errors throughout this edition including broken words. For example... Since it appears most often, the word "service" or "services" is 99 percent of the time presented as two words: "ser vice" or "ser vices." Only once did I notice it as one word. Numericals were also broken into two elements after commas. There was even one sentence where a word was misspelled and not even a line and half later, spelled correctly. Extremely annoying, but no one is perfect when it comes to typos. However, not presenting words correctly is just down right irritating. It was almost as if the Kindle editor didn't know the English language or was a computer with its autocorrect malfunctioning. But again, for a 99-cent Kindle book, it is what it is. (And I'm far from perfect, so I hope I haven't littered this review with typos!)STARS: The topic gets 4 stars, the Kindle errors knock it down to 3 stars.

Like any true baseball fan, my first trip to Cooperstown is one of the enduring memories of my life. Unfortunately childhood memories fade over the decades, and these days I would be hard pressed to name the five most memorable moments of my visit. I can, however, easily name the most vivid highlight: seeing the T206 Honus Wagner card in person for the one and only time of my life. Here it was: the unattainable card, an avatar for an entire hobby. A masterpiece.One never really forgets the T206 Wagner, but the sense of awe that I felt that day was not re-awakened again until I watched the magnificent 30-For-30 Shorts film by the Barnicle Brothers. Shortly afterwards, I purchased "The Card," and promptly devoured it.As the first comprehensive telling of the story of the most prized baseball card ever collected, O’Keefe's book works on a number of levels. It is at once a history of baseball card collecting, a history of the groundbreaking T206 set, and – not immaterially – a history of the great Honus Wagner himself. Above all, though, the book is a history of the "perfect" Wagner card, most famously owned by Wayne Gretzky. It is this card’s story that makes and breaks the book: a tale of intrigue and skullduggery worthy of any mystery novel. The "genesis" story of the Gretzky Wagner is of particular fascination. How did the most prized baseball card of all time appear at a Florida flea market; possibly in an unheard-of format? How did it end up in the hands of a down-on-his-luck Long Islander, and what became of it in his possession? And what happened in the back room of a shabby card shop in Hicksville, New York before the card set off on its incredible journey to becoming the world’s most famous piece of cardboard? I could have read 200 more pages about these events.As the tale unfolds, and the Wagner’s murky past is drowned out by the blur of millions of dollars, one unfortunately begins to wonder if O'Keeffe himself got in too deep in the course of writing the book. Whether he's cynical by nature or just became that way after peeling back the curtain on a bloated, oversaturated hobby rife with hucksters and grifters, at times there is a sneering undertone to "The Card" that makes it a little difficult to truly love. As an unapologetic child of the junk wax era, I could never really identify with the book’s quixotic Wagner-chasers, the men with "holes in their psyches," but neither did I find them as contemptible as O'Keeffe seems to. "The Card" reads like a book that still wants to believe in the romance of the Wagner and the fun of collecting, but has seen too much and been let down from too great a height to really see past the monolith of "The Hobby." For someone who still finds enjoyment in the simple pleasures of a white elephant like the 1987 Topps baseball set, "The Card" is a bit like the Wagner T206 itself: fascinating, but always just out of reach.

My initial excitement started to fade after the so called "oath keepers" crap started to bubble up. I took two oaths to defend our GREAT country, first time when I became an citizen of this greatest country on earth and second time when I joined the military of this greatest country on earth. Not I nor!canyons else needs to take any more oaths we jus uhht need to do our jobs and keep this country great. As I read deeper into this book I noticed that this was becoming an anti government anti American piece of work. I got the message that this author would not like me because I am an American by choice not by accident of birth. Even though this is obviously a work of fiction I did not need to read anymore anti - American, anti government crap.Too bad because the story was interesting and the action was pretty good so why ruin a book with anti- government and anti American crap. When Bosak described his characters killing American soldiers I had enough.Does Bosak like to champion ISSIS or the Taliban? It sure looks like it. Shamefull book Mr. Bosak shamefully done indeed.

First I’d like to say kudos for having written a book and published it. This takes effort and dedication. The book had a decent premise and story line. I felt the characters could have been flushed out more. My biggest complaint is the author absolutely needs to take a course in proper grammar, word usage, and writing rules and needs a proofreader! Your is NOT the same word and is not interchangeable with you’re. That’s one of many examples where the wrong word was used over and over and over. Extra words or missing words were rampant. And commas were hardly ever used! Sentences were strung together where they needed to be two or more distinct sentences. The lack of proper word usage and grammar mistakes almost made the book unreadable. It was very hard to continue reading. Every mistake like that jars you out of the story. It became very annoying very quickly. Also, please read your writing out loud to yourself. You’ll see how stiff and unnatural the conversations sound. Use contractions. People naturally do so when speaking. For the love of writing please correct these errors. I don’t think I could read another book by this author if he doesn’t make an effort to correct these mistakes. I feel this author could make something of a writing career. But only if he cares enough to listen to feedback and correct the mistakes. I’ve offered this critique with all due respect in the hopes of steering the author in the right direction.

I bought this book based on a recommendation I saw on a website. The book is a major disappointment and I am sorry I spent the money to get this book. Writing is extremely poor with short, choppy sentences, incorrect syntax, and incorrect to nonexistent punctuation to the point that it is distracting. The story line is predictable and boring. The author should have invested in someone to proofread the manuscript because this is the worst I have seen in a published book in a very long time. I give it one star because it appears I cannot give it zero stars.

First survival book that had a hopeful ending. And mirrored so much about what our world is going through at the moment and the way it should be changed in many ways. I recommend this book to any and everyone who would like to see good changes in our world. MAGA.

Story line was good and developed.Characters were developed and some good thoughts went into the story. Grammar and spelling left a lot to be desired.

I really liked this story. There were a lot of interesting things brought up in this story about community living in the face of disaster that made it worth reading. It made me wish I could be a part of this group of people. The thing that was the downer in this book is it needed proof reading BAD. The mistakes in wording and sentence structure made me have to go back and reread parts.

Good story line, family reading. Like most in this genre this book would GREATLY benefit from editing. That said I will follow Wayne and read more of his stuff.

I watched a PBS show where Joy Bauer used her book. I wanted a copy for my Kindle app that Amazon so generously provides for free to download to my computer. Joy gives a lot of information as a Nutritionist that helps people create a healthier lifestyle. It is important for all of us to eat as healthy meals as we can at home. I do a lot of research myself to be able to do this for myself. I have always been a good cook, but now I eat all my meals at home. It is amazing what a single person alone in life can do just to help themselves be healthier by watching what you eat and drink. It makes all the difference in the world to eat healthy as you can afford. I am grateful for this book to have to make notes on what foods I need to purchase to be as healthy as possible. Her book helps people be able to create healthy grocery lists so ideal weight can be maintained for a lifetime of yo-yo dieting. I recommend this book to anyone who wants to start today to be as healthy as you can be for the rest of your lifetime. True education is self-education. When books like this are read, it causes a person to want to eat as healthy as they possibly can because it increases your knowledge about foods we need to eat.

This book has a large list of disorders along with jump-starting menus and recipes to help the reader cope. This book became ever so much more valuable when I found out that Medicare does not consider Nutritionists or dieticians as being necessary to a person's well-being. One of the very best books on nutrition and its relationship to health wellness I have ever found.

My friend in prison has at least 7 bulging disks in his spine, plus more in the other section that hasn't been MRId yet. He has arthritis all over and lives in pain. The Dept of Corr has decided to take away meds so he must live with the pain until he gets out. I saw this book and thought since his new celly was a chef, I would send this book to him! He can buy a lot of ingredients from the commissary with the money I send him, and substitute some unavailable ones for other available ones. He said he first read the section on arthritis, and has now given it to the chef to see what he thinks about substitutions to keep it healthy for him. He will tell me when they cook their first dish from it! He told me the other day he is only eating one meal a day at chow hall, and that's breakfast. I pray that this book will be his salvation from so much pain. The book arrived pretty quickly and he said it was in perfect shape. I appreciate the great shipping with everything I buy from Amazon.com.

The prince is quite taken with the charming and elegant cat whose generosity and unique powers help him fulfill not one request of his father's, but two. When the prince learns that the White Cat's happiness is threatened by impending marriage to a wicked wizard, he valiantly defends her, thereby winning her hand. She is, of course, a lovely enchanted princess. San Souci has done an excellent job of retelling Madame d'Aulnoy's long, ornate tale. While many elements of the older story have been left out, the romance remains and the mystery is heightened, making a tighter, more direct story that will appeal to young readers. The formal tone of the story is carried out in Spirin's elaborate, detailed illustrations. Their soft, golden glow evokes an appropriate sense of the past, as if the scenes were being viewed across the ages. A ferocious sea battle and a dramatic confrontation between the wizard, disguised as a dragon, and the prince are depicted in two marvelous double-spreads that afford special pleasure for the eye and imagination. The only jarring note is the face of the White Cat, which often looks cruel rather than lovely. Here was a fairy tale that I had never read before. Very much like other tales with youth meeting tests of determination and faith, freeing the beautiful cat princess from a magic spell and marrying her for happy ever after. But very well told and beautifully illustrated. You can't get much better than San Souci and Spirin.

When I was a child I would borrow this book from my school's library at every chance I got. I was mesmerized by the illustrations and the story. I read it over and over again until I moved away. Always remembering the fantastical fairy tale, I searched for ten years for this book. When I finally found it here on amazon.com, I was thrilled! The book is in excellent condition. Every page is brilliant in quality and the story is as alive now as it was when it was written. It may say that the reading level is for ages 4-8, but it's enjoyable for people of every age. One of my favorite amazon purchases to date.

This book could not be more beautifully illustrated. Spirin's art has a wispy, dreamlike delicacy combined with beautifully rendered detail. It looks truly magical. One two-page spread depicts a battle royal between armored cats and an armada of rats sailing in ostrich-egg shells -- it's almost too beautiful and fantastic to take in.The story itself is a lesser-known fairy tale, filled with heroism, romance, virtue, and wicked villains. My four-year-old fell in love with it immediately, and we have played many games of "white cat" in the last few weeks. The cat queen is lovely, brave, wise, strong -- and exquisitely dressed! What little girl wouldn't be enchanted? Boys will love the high adventure and excitement of the story, complete with wicked dwarfs and fire-breathing salamanders. In every respect, one of the finest fairy-tale picturebooks I've ever seen.

I bought this as a "welcome to Northern California" gift for a friend, and was extremely tempted to keep it for myself instead, as the store only had one copy. The photos were all so beautiful! this is a brilliant book on the north coast of california proving that it is just as beautiful as oregon's coast

I grew up in Fort Bragg (along the Mendocino Coast) and got my Bachelor's degree at Humboldt State University (just north of Eureka), and I now live in Lansing, Michigan. I love Michigan, but I miss the majestic, rugged scenery of the North Coast of California. This book brought me back to the sights of my memory with such excellent quality photographs, I am tempted to buy it for all of my friends who've moved away from California. Thank you to the authors for choosing the places I love (Fern Canyon, Trinidad Head, Russian Gulch) and for including some of the creatures not found in the Midwest (salamanders, banana slugs!)

Having recently re-located to the Northcoast of California, we became captivated by this great collection of photographs. All of our family and friends received copies to celebrate the beauty of the Northcoast. This collection is a great way to share what we see every day.
