Wilderness Press hit a high mark with their Sierra North and Sierra South books. This comprehenisve guide to the Lake Tahoe Sierra is to be commended for being very comprehensive, containing 112 hikes that touch on all corners of the Tahoe area. The descriptions sparkle much more than than the typical dry text in these sort of guides as well. Unfortunately the book could stand to improve its layout and maps, especially the all-important master map pages that clue you in to where hikes are located. Also, the individual trail maps are often nowhere near the text for the trip. Hopefully a future edition will improve upon the book's layout.

Easily one of the best books written about hiking in the Tahoe area. It's out-of-print, so grab one while you can, totally worth it. The author explains well for both the new and veteran hiker, and you will appreciate the writing style, the detail, and the accuracy.

Schaffer's book is the best I've seen, and I have them all. The reason he goes beyond Mike White's work is the geology. He actually tells the reader why the Yuba goes north and Bear Creek goes West at Emigrant Gap. This is just one example. Another bright spot in this book is a great deal of detail on west slope features. It is one of the few works that gives some detail on the American River giant sequoia grove.

This book is still the best source for hiking this area of the Sierra Nevada! Virtually all the information online about hikes, natural history etc is just copied from this book it seems. Even the outdated data about fish presence in the various lakes has been copied over and over from this book - BEWARE! Besides that, I highly recommend this for anyone adventuring into this wonderful region of California and Nevada.

Bought it to update the original book I bought in 1982..which is falling apart.

My wife and I are avid hikers and had recently moved near Lake Tahoe and wanted to learn the trail system. This book goes into great detail regarding hike length, terrain, elevation, lakes, fishing and trailhead details. I also like the fact that it tells you which hikes are probably likely to be crowded and those less used.

Great to find an old favorite at a great price.

This is a moving story, that definitely had me engaged and caring about the characters, where their respective lives came from, intersected, and were going.Speaking for myself, the non-linear treatment of time/narrative was not problematic in terms of the narrative - in fact, i think it served as an excellent dramatic device (canʻt say too much more without needing to say "spoiler alert"). However, as another commenter noted, it does pose technical challenges directorially, in terms of scene and costume changes, although i am sure that there have been very effective solutions.imho, the lead character, "Callie", definitely has an nice psychological/emotional arc to convey, less so Sara and George. The rest of the characters generally fulfill narrative functions, although they all provide pointed insights into how we all view, value, move into, and out of relationships.Personally, i loved the story, and would love to see it produced locally.

I had never read a play before (unless it was something required for English class in high school) but this story captured me immediately. It is a quick read... not very long. I loved it. That was in 2002.Fast forward to 2010, and I never forgot this story. It came up in conversation and I had decided that I wanted to read it again. I had a hard time finding it locally at my library, so I went ahead and purchased it. I was a little disappointed that the copy was essentially the size of a Program Handout you get when going to a play or other event. You know.. the kind that is held together by a staple or two. It easily gets lost on my bookshelves compared to books with spines.That being said, it is a wonderful story, and just as good the second time around. Highly recommend this quick read.

Diano Son captures this touching store told in scenes that jump from present to past. Every other scene tells the present and past of two women who fall in love without the knowledge of their sexuality. When one is beat and injured by a madman in the city, they must confront their families with their sexuality. One, too unstable to be on her own, needs the other. The story is touching, melodic and wonderful.

Reading it as a dramatic work, I found it hard to find character development between the two main characters. However, I look forward to seeing it performed when the director and those characters have contributed to it.

I like having plays printed in this particular form because they are easier to hold when reading scenes in class. Also I prefer holding an actual printed text as opposed to downloading onto my phone.

I watch Flea Market Flip all the time and I’m really fond of the idea of re-imagining furniture with paint and other media. So, when I happened upon this book – all about painting old furniture to redo it - I snatched it up.The cover picture does not appeal to me, but I figured it was just a piece for a child’s room and that the rest of the projects would grab me. Well…now that I’ve had a chance to read it, I’m not 100% thrilled. It’s a nice idea and there’s a very thorough section on various paint/other techniques, but the makeover section is disappointingly short. Speaking of the makeover section…I suspect that the author’s style and mine just don’t coincide, because I found a lot of the projects rather ugly afterwards, particularly the little desk that was turned into a weird orange color with white distressing brushed over it. I know that I like painted furniture because I have seen beautiful, inspiring pieces online before (which even inspired me to paint my own dresser), but nothing in this book was particularly inspiring to me (aside from a few pieces I thought were alright). It’s really too bad, as I was hoping for more.Overall, whether or not I can recommend this really depends on your personal style. Some people out there may love the author’s style, and if so, then you’ll likely love this book. I suggest you try to look inside the book before buying if you can, just to see if it’s up your alley.

Probably the best book I've seen but still slightly lacking in detail. Definitely for the very beginner level, just dipping their toe into the furniture rehab world. Not much to offer anyone with experience, so keep that in mind.

I purchased this book to update some old furniture that was left behind at our house when we bought it. Since we moved from an apartment to a house we didn't have a lot of furniture to fill the space, so I wanted to update and modernize what we had. This book goes into detail on how to take your existing pieces and update them to amazing one of a kind items. They go over in detail how to strip, prime, stencil, paint and even replace the hardware to change the look of your furniture. I turned a hallway table into a printer desk and it only took me an entire day to sand, prime, paint and add new hardware. I love how it turned out and get so many compliments on it. Even if you're not "crafty" this book teaches you ways to transform your furniture no matter what your skill level. Don't be intimidated by DIY crafts!

I'm a pinterester and I still found this book very helpful. The author does a great job illustrating step by step instructions (with pictures) on how to DIY old pieces of furniture into new ones within a short time. Although most of this stuff can be found on Pinterest but what this book does is provide everything you need to know about furniture makeover in one central place. That way you don't have to weed through all the noise on Pinterest to get to where you need to be. I would recommend this book to people who are on a limited budget and don't mind investing time in budget shopping to find furniture pieces they can easily turnaround with the right tools.

I just started refinishing my own furniture and was looking for a how to book with ideas for different looks and techniques. This book is PERFECT. Lots of pictures, excellent explanations that are easy to follow. There is a guide on the different tools and products used and what to look for in buying furniture to refinish. For every technique she shows she gives a list at the beginning to show what materials are needed. It has everything I was looking for and it's easy to follow as well. I would recommend this to anyone starting out or thinking of renovating furniture or anyone who is looking for new ideas and techniques to use.

I needed a furniture recovery book for a christmas gift. Originally, I was going to go with the furniture bible, but the price was really high for my budget. I decided to go with this one instead and I was not disappointed. The front and back are very pretty and presentable and there are beautiful pictures within it as well. The first part of the book goes over various furniture repair techniques and the later half focuses on before and afters to give you the inspiration you need to actually go through with your project. I was very pleased with the quality of this book, and my giftee was thrilled as well.

Excellent book if you are serious about furniture makeovers. Covers materials, tools and techniques. The step by step instruction are easy to follow and most of the projects are adaptable for any colors and/or finish combinations you might want to use yourself. Not stuck on a particular style. The authors approach is perfect for teaching you the craft and helping you to apply it in your own unique way.Thanks for a great book.
