Review

"If you're interested in helping kids with ADHD battle some of their biggest hurdles--planning, organization, and time management--this book is a 'must read.' This humane, evidence-based, structured yet flexible program is the best argument yet against the claim that there's no validated way to intervene directly with children with ADHD. The book sets a new standard for the field. It enables the clinician to provide essential help for children and families desperately in need of sound treatment."--Stephen P. Hinshaw, PhD, Department of Psychology, University of California, Berkeley "It's here! Practitioners who work with children with ADHD have been eagerly awaiting the publication of this treatment manual by leading clinician-researchers. Demonstrated effective in rigorous research, this intervention is the first to comprehensively address the organizational difficulties that are common and impairing among children with ADHD. Well written, detailed, and thorough, this is a uniquely valuable contribution to the treatment literature."--Mary V. Solanto, PhD, Department of Pediatrics, Zucker School of Medicine at Hofstra/Northwell "This book provides a complete manual for a new nonpharmacological intervention that guides parents and teachers to work together. Unlike almost every other method for addressing organizational problems in ADHD, this one has been tested in a strong study and the results have passed rigorous peer review. This approach is a gift to children with ADHD and their families from some of the world's top experts."--Benjamin B. Lahey, PhD, Irving B. Harris Professor of Epidemiology, Psychiatry, and Behavioral Neuroscience, University of Chicago "A timely, important resource. This complete manual includes detailed session scripts and activities, dozens of helpful handouts and checklists that also can be accessed online, and clear guidelines for troubleshooting inevitable treatment challenges. Gallagher, Abikoff, and Spira are to be especially commended for their focus on giving children with ADHD the ongoing support needed to use newly acquired skills on their own."--George J. DuPaul, PhD, Department of Education and Human Services, Lehigh University "This wonderfully practical book focuses on the everyday organizational challenges that kids with ADHD face at home and in school. The authors provide step-by-step guidance for implementing a skills-training program that has been proven to make a real difference for children and families. This approach represents an important advance in the development of targeted interventions to help address key areas of functional impairment in ADHD."--Edmund Sonuga-Barke, PhD, School of Psychology, University of Southampton, United Kingdom "Commonly used ADHD treatments such as medication and parent management training have only a minimal impact on children's organizational skills. Based on a decade of high-quality research, this is the first evidence-based guide for treating organizational skills deficits in this population. Professionals learn how to implement the intervention in collaboration with children, parents, and teachers. Application of this approach will surely improve the lives of children with ADHD."--Jeffrey M. Halperin, PhD, Department of Psychology, Queens College and The Graduate Center, City University of New York  "This is a well-done, well-researched, well-documented, and carefully detailed manualized approach….The plan presented has been empirically validated and clinicians can generalize many of the modules to non-ADHD children who may have similar weaknesses in any of these areas. Any graduate mental health program interested in programs for children with ADHD or OST deficits would certainly wish to include this book in their curriculum.” (Child and Family Behavior Therapy 2015-10-01)

Review

"Brown's non-fiction is entertaining, easy-to-read, and an excellent source of information for readers who are fascinated by folklore"--Amanda Ferris, The Absolute Mag"...as a die-hard fan of the show and wiki editor, I am amazed at the vast amount of new information I found in these pages. This isn't anything like those publications on the Grimm website or the iTunes Grimm app that just restate what we already know!"--Bob the Wikipedian, GrimmWiki"Brown uses contemporary and fun language to make a somewhat daunting task - that of figuring out what all the behind the scene information might be - into an easily readable and educational read."--Bon Steele, bonsteele.com"A perceptive view of the original stories and how time has twisted them, this book is also a great reminder of what we lose as we change stories to make them safer to tell children."--Wendy Stevens, Portland Book Review"The Mythology of Grimm is as fast-paced and dryly funny as one would expect a collection of information from Grimm to be."--Shilo Adams, ScreenFad

This book is definitely an insightful way to contemplate and illuminate the series, leading one directly into the Grimm Brothers folklore as well as, in the process, into some other selected Grimm-Brothers-unrelated mythologies.Certainly hooks up the reader to the show and to the books of fairy tales on the shelf. The author explores possibilities, retells (with some humor) the tales, simplifies, translates, and intentionally makes the complex material/symbolism/allusions easily digestible by anyone without any memory/knowledge of fairy tales, as this is (unfortunately) the current situation with so many younger readers and fans of the show. However, if someone is interested in delving a bit deeper into a more scholarly approach to the Grimm Brothers, it might be a good idea to read more academic (while still enjoyable and highly unsettling) works by Maria Tatar (scholarship in Germanic literature)--especially her excellent book titled The Hard Facts of the Grimms' Fairy Tales (the title says it all!).

I'm a huge fan of Grimm and wanted something that would explain the different creatures more thorough. I thought the book would have lots of pictures. I wanted to see illustrations of the creatures and weapons. I should of read the reviews before buying the book. There aren't any illustrations, however the author definitely did his research on the show and especially the weapons in Aunt Marie's trailer. It was difficult for me to follow all the names and descriptions without any pics to go along. I was very impressed by the authors knowledge of everything Grimm.

Being a lover of Grimm as well as a lover of folklore and fairytales, this was great! The retelling of the stories with the author's comments had me chuckling more times than not. Quotes from the series gave me mini-flashes of the story and the creatures involved in them. I would highly recommend this book for any Grimm lover and anyone who enjoys fairytales as well.Con

First, the book is not only informative, but has humor, background information and lots of great comparisons to fairy tales we heard as children. It may not be endorsed by the t.v. show, but I would recommend it to all the Grimmsters out there!! Love reading the quotes from the characters in the show.

Not what I expected, it was better. Too bad that it stops at the end of season two. Can we hope for a follow up for the remainder of the series?

This book not only addresses the Vessen in Grimm but also the Grimm bros fairy tales and other fairy tales that the Vessen were based on. There are a lot of quotes from the characters of Grimm, esp. Monroe...Who I adore!

loved GRIMM series on TV. this is a very good reference book for GRIMM lovers.

It was a gift for a friend who LOVES Grimm. She was very happy with it.
