This book is a collection of articles written over the years regarding the phenomenon that is Gone with the Wind. It contains early book reviews (both good and bad), literary critiques, and articles discussing the thematic elements and undertones of Margaret Mitchell's story. It seeks to examine the influence that Gone with the Wind has had on American culture and trace its rise and fall in popularity over the years (both book and film are discussed, but these articles seem to focus more on Gone with the Wind the book). Although published in the early 80's, Recasting: Gone with the Wind in American Culture is still worth reading for anyone who loves reading about Gone with the Wind or for those who are interested in taking a deeper, scholarly look at one of America's most famous (if not always popular) stories.Gone with the Wind has always been a personal favorite of mine ever since I first read it years ago. I thoroughly enjoyed reading the articles in this book and seeing the story in ways I hadn't thought of before. But I think even critics of the story would enjoy picking the book up. Not all of the articles are flattering, and some are downright critical. Either way, I would recommend it.

Pyron amasses a collection of critical essays on GWTW that, as far as I can tell, is unequalled. This includes early reviews of the book to modern-day criticism, which provides an interesting and helpful read. Check out Pyron's exhaustive biography on Margaret Mitchell too.

I really enjoyed this book. I hope noone gets the wrong idea by one comment that said there was too much sex content because I have no idea what she was writing about. So Please do not be concerned as there is no sex in this Clean book.-- I do like that this Mail Order Bride story is not the usual short short story where the 2 fall in love by writing letters and or when they see each other for the first time. The mail order bride, Ebba is very attracted to her husband to be, Daniel but she is overwhelmed when she finds out he was brothers & sister-in-laws and nieces and nephews in abundance - all living on the same orchard/ranch plus she is allergic to lots & sneezes a lot. So she does not see how Daniel could love her.-- And then the one gossipy woman, steals her letter to Daniel and starts a bad rumor about her. This is the one big thing in the story that poor Ebba can not figure out why this woman keeps making those cutting remarks -- But it all comes at in the end.

Did my best to get thru this book but found it impossible. At 57% ,I finally couldn't take it and just read the end. The story is slow like molasses, there are way too many people and other story lines going at the same time. The main characters barely spend any time together much less conversing. The heroine is not really likable and brings nothing to the table. She is just average in everything from looks to cooking and is always complaining about her allergy issues. It just dragged on until I prayed for the sweet relief of an ending.

Finally, a book overflowing with enough humor to reach my Irish funny bone! The author sets the curiosity hook deep right at the beginning by planting this mysterious question: What on earth did matchmaker Mrs. Pettigrew secretly add to the end of mail order bride Ebba Knudson's letter of introduction? Husband-to-be Daniel Weaver never got far enough to read the whole missive before it was stolen by the nasty town gossip in Nowhere, Washington. Even with the best intentions, neither the prospective husband nor the prospective wife are forthcoming which leads to a crisis of trust. Ebba suffers with severe allergies to the point she can scarcely venture outdoors. Daniel has not divulged he lives on a ranch with a boisterous army of at least two dozen relatives who are reproducing like rabbits. Why are the townsfolk of Nowhere acting so strangely about Poor Ebba? Having read at least 300 western romances, I could easily tell this was not author Kit Morgan's first rodeo because it could have been boring working with just 3 venues: Denver, Nowhere and the Weaver ranch, but it was anything but that. What a heart-warmer, full of sight gags, scandalous gossip and sweet family love.

Miss Ebba Knudsen is standing in a matchmaker's office because she is totally alone in the world, and becoming a mail-order bride is her only hope. However, to say she has reservations is an understatement. What choice is there? How bad could it be? It certainly must be better than what she now faces. It is time for Mr. Daniel Weaver to marry, and what better way than to wed a mail-order bride. He's the youngest of his brothers and the only one not married. So it is definitely time. Hopefully she will fit into his very large and loud family. No problem. Right?Although the premise of Dear Mr. Weaver was interesting and the writing was clean. That said, I just never felt drawn to any of the characters. The strongest personality was the matriarch, Mary (Ma) Weaver, but Daniel just left me cold. Ebba was nice enough, but she seemed to missing a backbone. The rest of the clan were all just too back woodsy and rowdy for my liking. All in all this book is suitable for any age reader, but for me it was just okay.

Dear Mr. Weaver is a fabulous historical romance by Kit Morgan. Ms. Morgan has delivered a well-written mail-order bride book that is loaded with fun and lovable characters. Ebba becomes a mail-order bride and is matched to Daniel. Daniel farms with his huge family. Ebba arrives with her allergies making her miserable. Ebba and Daniel's story is loaded with humor, drama, action and sneezes. I enjoyed reading Dear Mr. Weaver and look forward to reading more from Kit Morgan in the future. Dear Mr. Morgan is book 1 of the Mail-Order Bride Ink Series but can be read as a standalone. This is a complete book, not a cliff-hanger. This book is appropriate for all ages.

Ebba is alone in the world, so decides she will see Mrs. Pettigrew about being a mail order bride. The letter she writes about herself answers Daniel's questions, short & to the point. But quirky Mrs. P decides the letter needs something to give it some oomph! What she wrote shocked Matt, Daniel's cousin, who read the letter to Daniel cause he was too nervous to read it himself. But he was so flabbergasted over what the PS said, he couldn't read it to Daniel. They write back, sending for her, but both failed to realize her letter was stolen by the worst person possible! So when Ebba comes to town, everyone is looking at her funny, some with outright disdain towards her. Coming from a very small & not a close family, Ebba is overwhelmed to find out that Daniel is the youngest son of a very large family (24 family members live on the ranch & are very close). And worse than finding out he left out a few key details, she finds her allergies are the worst they have ever been! How can she be the wife of a farmer? Daniel is happy with his choice of brides. He knows the town folks act a bit strange towards her, but not until after the wedding, during the meal, does he find out why. He's furious! Something bad happens, of course. They all end up in court because of it. Oh, the judge! The poor man! I laughed so hard! I so enjoyed this wonderful book! BTW, it was sweet & clean, no sex or language. I giggled quite a bit through it!
