Welsh, Ph.D. Associate Department Head, Professor and Extension Horticulturist)"Tomato growers can’t do any better than this book. Bill Adams shares his vast knowledge and experience with passion and humor. The inclusion of organic as well as conventional growing methods should make it the tomato bible for all tomato growers."--Cheryl Hazeltine, Cheryl Hazeltine's Central Texas Gardener (Cheryl Hazeltine)"The color photos alone in the Texas tomato book will make you want to bite into a juicy homegrown tomato." - Glenn Dromgoole, The Eagle (Glenn Dromgoole The Eagle 2011-05-31)"He has written a dandy little book for those wanting to plant and raise some of their own vegetables, especially that delicious round fruit, we call tomatoes. . . delightful and easy to read book. If you have an urge to raise some tomatoes, get the Texas Tomato Lover's Handbook, you will learn a lot. . . One can see that I'm fan of Clark and William Adams." - Jerry Turner, The Mexia News (Jerry Turner The Mexia News 2011-05-28)“The Texas Tomato Lover’s Handbook” could as easily be called “Tomato-Growing for Dummies.” It not only offers the latest in research and experimentation (for the truly experienced grower) but a hand-holding, step-by-step guide for those of us who want to try tomatoes for the very first time, or who have done so fairly unsuccessfully for years. ""Top of the list. What can I say? He's the man! Those of us who have been around Houston for a LONG time know that Bill tells it like it is and that's what you need if you're going to try and grow tomatoes in this area" (Brenda Buest Smith The Lazy Gardener 2012-01-11)“Do not let the Texas title distract you. Practically all of the information given in the book applies to tomato growers everywhere. By far, the photography in this book is some of the best I’ve ever seen in a book on gardening, period. good read had a lot of good info for Texas growers , I have found out it really pays to grow what can grow in your area and not try and plant things that are not used to the heat here in zone 8, and planting the right things at the right time in each growing season. cool crops when it is cool and hot weather ones when it is hot. So much to learn about gardening from soil to fertilizing and plant care.
I don't know anything about tomatoes or how I would even begin to garden them, but this book - despite not going into depth about everything- makes a good guide for a beginner like me. I live in Texas and the one time I tried planting tomatoes it wasn't successful. This book has me excited to try again!
If you thought you knew everything, you didn't. This book turned what I thought I knew upside down. There are so many great tips and ideas in this book that I won't go back to the way I was growing tomatoes again. This book is a must for the serious Texas tomato growers, you'll be glad you got this book.
I plan to grow tomatos since my family loves tomatoes and paying over $2.00 a pound is crazy . Has a lot of valuable info as well as a lot of interesting historical info on tomatos . I did not know tomatos originated in south america , then were taken back to europe by spain . Then from spain the tomato traved to england , and then finaly to north america quite a trip .
My husband is planning a kitchen garden with lots of tomatoes. He's been using this book to plan
good
I bought this for a gift. I think that the recipient will be very pleased.
A must for the Texas tomato lover. A little late for me this year but I will have it ready before I buy next year's seeds or plants. Great photos and pages and pages about many of the different varieties of tomatoes. Only thing lacking is enough information about container gardening.
